The Music....
Rusty Strings strives to provide music that spans generations and cultures.
Much of America's music finds it's roots in Irish "jigs and reels" and Old English ballads.
As immigrants came to the U.S., they brought their music with them and these various styles eventually formed the basis of Appalachian Mountain Music, Bluegrass and other folk styles. Rusty Strings covers this range from traditional Irish songs such as
"Road to Lisdoonvarna" and "The Blarney Pilgrim" to Bluegrass staples including "Rocky Top" and "Foggy Mountain Breakdown".
But there are many genres not thought of as acoustic! In the 30's and 40's, classic acts such as The Mills Brothers, performed with simple instrumentals, often a single guitar.
George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin are among the most famous American composers of this time, writing several classics. We cover songs from these artists such as "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "I Don't Mind Being All Alone".
And one cannot forget the great western songs such as "Back in the Saddle Again", "Riders in the Sky" and "Tennesee Waltz". Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and other Cowboy singers where the "Rock stars" of their time. (And it was not a bad time at that!)
Some of the best songs ever penned were classic hymns. Not only the melodies, but the message cannot be surpassed! Old Irish traditionals such as "Be Thou my Vision"
and the Swedish poem inspired "How Great Thou Art" are favorites.
You can be assured that a wide variety of styles, both vocal and instrumental are available. While we do not boast of being the best vocals, the best instrumentalists or even the "best looking", we do think that one can have the "best of times" with Rusty Strings!
The Instruments....
Rusty Strings brings several instruments to the table. Some of familiar while others are a little more unique!
Acoustic Guitar - "The good ol' Martin dreadnought"
Banjo - "Nothing quite like the 5 string to get you toe a tappin!"
Mandolin - "Not just for Italian music!"
Fiddle - "What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?"
Hammered Dulcimer - "An ancient instrument and one of most beautiful of sounds"
Mountain Dulcimer - "The only stringed instrument truly of American origin"
Bass - "The Dog House version, not the fish"
Tin Whistle - "Not made of Tin anymore!"
...... and perhaps a few rythmn instruments to pass out to the audience!
